Tivoli at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026: Experience, Strategy, and the Role of Ukrainian Design on the Global Stage

In April 2026, the Ukrainian furniture brand Tivoli will present Ukraine at Salone del Mobile.Milano for the fourth time — the world’s leading event in design and the furniture industry. The exhibition traditionally takes place at Fiera Milano Rho, bringing together top manufacturers, designers, and architects from around the globe.

This year, the company will showcase its exhibition in Hall 5 (Stand A21), alongside leading European brands, and will also contribute to the organization of the national Ukrainian stand.

We spoke with Yulia Lisovska, Commercial Director of Furniture Company “Tivoli,” about the preparation for the exhibition, the importance of international presence during wartime, and the development of the Ukrainian furniture industry.

On Preparation and the New Exhibition

Could you tell us about the preparation for the exhibition and how Tivoli will present itself in Milan this year?

This year, we are focusing on the balance between form and perception. At the center of the exhibition are the EON table and Scally chairs, which combine clean lines, well-considered proportions, and everyday comfort.

The Scally chair, by the way, has already received international recognition — it became a finalist in the 29th Spanish industrial furniture design competition, CETEM Design Award 2026.

We will also present an expanded collection of “Strikha” lounge chairs and coffee tables from the same series. Some of the new pieces were developed in collaboration with Ukrainian designer Yulia Kononenko.

Special attention has been given to ergonomics. In particular, we will introduce armless chairs that provide comfort for people of different body types without restricting movement. We will also showcase new Point chairs.

Fourth Year in Milan

This is not Tivoli’s first time at Salone del Mobile.Milano. How is your presence evolving?

Yes, this is already our fourth year of participation, essentially since the creation of the national Ukrainian pavilion.

This year, we have also joined as co-organizers of the Ukrainian stand. Its design was developed by Yulia Kononenko, inspired by the work of Sonia Delaunay — a designer of Ukrainian origin associated with Art Deco, Orphism, and Simultaneism.

For us, this is no longer just participation, but a systematic effort to position Ukraine as a country of contemporary design.

On the Importance of Exhibitions During Wartime

How important are such exhibitions for Ukrainian businesses today, in the context of a full-scale war?

This is a very relevant and important question. For Ukraine’s economy, it is critically important to develop exports, as domestic purchasing power has significantly declined. Businesses need to enter new markets rather than compete for a limited number of clients within the country.

At the same time, international partners are often cautious about working with Ukrainian companies due to the war. This is why consistent participation in international exhibitions is essential — it builds trust and brand recognition over time.

It is important to understand that export is a long-term process. A single contract can take up to a year from the initial contact to shipment. Therefore, it is crucial to clearly define the type of client you are targeting: whether it is to fill production capacity or to work with clients who value design and are willing to pay for added value. In the latter case, it is a longer journey — through architects, designers, and integration into their projects.

— Why are offline exhibitions still important for the furniture industry?

Direct, face-to-face contact with clients is irreplaceable. It allows for immediate feedback, a better understanding of product perception, and the opportunity to build trust.

We are not simply selling furniture — we offer partnership and solutions. And it is precisely through personal interaction that we can communicate this value.

The Power of Community

Does participation in the Cluster help in working on international markets?

Absolutely. Quite often, we encounter clients whose requests do not directly match our product — for example, they may be looking for sofas or outdoor furniture.

In such cases, we rely on networking and recommend other members of the Cluster. Thanks to this network, we can not only promote our own brand but also support other Ukrainian manufacturers.

This is the strength of the Cluster — when not just one company benefits, but the entire industry grows together.

Expectations for 2026

What are your expectations for this year’s exhibition?

Milan is a global hub for the industry. People come here both for inspiration and for new connections.

At the same time, we do not hide that there is a certain level of concern given the broader geopolitical situation. Despite operating in a country at war, every international engagement carries responsibility.

However, we also understand that those who continue to work and develop become stronger. We expect to meet our partners, establish new connections, and continue developing both our company and the Ukrainian furniture industry as a whole.

Today, the industry in Ukraine is not shrinking — on the contrary, it is showing growth. And exhibitions like this only reinforce that development.

In Conclusion

Tivoli’s participation in Salone del Mobile.Milano is not just about a single brand. It represents Ukraine’s consistent presence on the global market, the trust built over years, and an industry that continues to grow and compete internationally even under challenging conditions.
