From drawing to real space: members of the Lviv Furniture Cluster helped young people bring the “Echo” project to life
A new public space called “Echo” has been opened on the grounds of the surgical building of the Second Medical Association of Lviv — a therapeutic garden for patients, their families, and medical staff. A distinctive feature of the project is that it was created by participants of the Urban Movement “In the City Has Me,” who independently went through the entire process — from site research and concept development to the full realization of the space.
A key role in implementing the project was played by members of the Lviv Furniture Cluster. The FIX union team contributed to the production of furniture for the space and helped the young participants turn their drawings and ideas into real objects within the urban environment.
Back in spring, participants of the Urban Movement worked at the production facilities of FIX union, where together with company specialists they went through all stages of outdoor furniture production — from material preparation to assembling finished products. As a result, the benches designed by the young participants themselves became part of the new public space and are already serving hospital visitors today.
This project is another example of how business can support youth initiatives and create opportunities for hands-on learning. For the participants, it was a chance not only to see production processes from the inside but also to gain real experience in implementing their own urban design solutions.
At the same time, FIX union’s cooperation with young people is not limited to individual projects. For several months now, the company has served as an official practical training base for the Department of Urban Planning at Lviv Polytechnic National University. Students have the opportunity to explore the processes of designing and manufacturing street furniture, work on real-life cases, and gain practical experience essential for their future professional careers.
“When young people see how their drawings and ideas turn into real elements of the urban environment, they start to perceive their future profession differently. That is why we support such initiatives and open our production to students and young urbanists. It is an investment in the future of the industry and our cities,” said Pavlo Straz, director of FIX union.
The “Echo” project became a vivid example of how collaboration between active youth, medical institutions, and socially responsible business can transform good ideas into spaces that improve people’s lives every day.
