The Lviv Furniture Cluster has joined the development of the professional standard “Furniture Manufacturing Master” — a new profession in Ukraine that was recently added to the National Classification of Occupations. This initiative is an important step for the development of the furniture industry, the preparation of qualified specialists, and the creation of modern educational programs that meet the real needs of manufacturing companies.
The working group brings together representatives of furniture businesses, vocational education institutions, industry expert organizations, employers, and specialists from different regions of Ukraine. The Lviv Furniture Cluster is represented in the working group by Oksana Straz, Executive Director of the Cluster and Development Director at FIX Union; Andrii Varenytsia, Founder of Varenycia Group; as well as representatives of the educational community of the Lviv region, including Mariana Udovytska, Head of the Cycle Commission for Wood Processing Technologies at the Professional College of Technology of the Ukrainian National Forestry University.
The draft professional standard includes a full professional qualification, “Furniture Manufacturing Master,” as well as three partial qualifications: Cabinet Furniture Manufacturing Master, Upholstered Furniture Manufacturing Master, and Joinery/Furniture Craft Manufacturing Master. This approach will allow the industry to respond more flexibly to market demands and develop relevant professional competencies.
At present, the working group is conducting an expert assessment of the labor functions and job tasks that will form the foundation of the future standard. These findings will later serve as the basis for educational programs, learning outcomes, and qualification requirements for future industry professionals.
We invite employers, representatives of furniture manufacturing companies, educators, experts, non-governmental organizations, and all professionals working in the furniture and woodworking sectors to participate in the survey. Your expertise is essential for creating a professional standard that reflects current labor market challenges and the real needs of the industry.
The survey will remain open until June 22, 2026. The results of the expert assessment will contribute to the development of a high-quality professional standard and help ensure the preparation of skilled specialists for Ukraine’s furniture industry.
