Ukrainian communities, businesses, and initiative groups have received a new opportunity to attract funding for renewable energy projects. European Energy Communities Facility has announced a new call for applications offering grants of €45,000 for the development of business plans for energy community projects.
To help Ukrainian applicants better understand the participation requirements and prepare strong applications, a national online information session will take place on May 15, 2026.
European Energy Communities Facility is a European initiative aimed at supporting the development of energy communities and renewable energy projects across Europe. The program is funded by the European Union under the LIFE programme and focuses on strengthening energy independence, supporting local energy generation, and promoting sustainable community development.
Within the initiative, at least 140 energy communities across Europe will receive financial and expert support to develop professional business plans for their projects.
For Ukrainian participants, this is an opportunity not only to receive grant funding, but also to prepare their projects for future scaling and investment attraction.
Successful applicants will be eligible for a one-time financial grant of €45,000 to develop a business plan for a renewable energy community project.
In addition to financial support, the program includes educational and advisory assistance. Participants will gain access to a practice-oriented capacity-building program designed to strengthen knowledge in energy management, project preparation, and the implementation of modern renewable energy solutions.
The national expert of European Energy Communities Facility in Ukraine is Sustainable Development Agency “SYNERGY”, which will support Ukrainian applicants throughout the application process.

One of the key updates in the second call is the introduction of a mechanism for a fairer distribution of grants among participating countries. At least one application from each country may receive support across the two calls, provided that applicants meet the minimum evaluation threshold.
Another important change is the introduction of the criterion “innovation in the local context.” This means that projects implementing a technology or social model for the first time in a particular region may receive an additional advantage during the evaluation process.
The organizers also emphasize that the second call provides an opportunity for applicants who were not selected during the first round to resubmit updated proposals that take into account the new competition requirements.
The development of energy communities is becoming one of the key directions of Ukraine’s energy resilience. For businesses and local communities, it is an opportunity to reduce dependence on external energy risks, optimize costs, and implement modern energy-efficient solutions.
