Kaizen in Focus for the Furniture Industry: How Manufacturers in the Lviv Region Can Improve Efficiency in Times of Uncertainty
Representatives of the Lviv Furniture Cluster joined the practical online webinar “Kaizen: Confidence in Chaos or Extreme Conditions”, organized by Kaizen Institute Ukraine together with the Kharkiv Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the support of Smart Staff and the Lviv Furniture Cluster. The event brought together manufacturing company executives, operations managers, and business representatives who are currently working in conditions of constant change, market turbulence, and intense competition.
For furniture manufacturers in the Lviv region, improving operational efficiency is becoming increasingly relevant. Labor shortages, rising production costs, the need for rapid process adaptation, and the necessity to operate in export markets require companies not only to deliver high-quality products, but also to build systematic production management processes.
During the webinar, Kaizen Institute Ukraine consultant Kostyantyn Hlazkov emphasized that Kaizen is not a one-time process optimization approach, but rather a culture of continuous improvement that helps companies systematically respond to change and reduce production losses.
The discussion focused on risk management, teamwork in crisis conditions, adaptation of production processes, and employee engagement in change management. Special attention was paid to resistance to change, as the human factor often becomes one of the key challenges during business transformation.
During the presentation, the expert highlighted that most employees already have their own ideas on how to improve operations in their work areas. However, the effectiveness of improvements depends on how well a company can involve its team in the process of continuous development.
One of the most valuable parts of the webinar was the presentation of real-life examples of lean manufacturing implementation across various industries. Participants explored cases related to logistics optimization, reduction of equipment setup time, minimizing production losses, and increasing productivity without additional investments in machinery.
Among the showcased examples were improvements in production line productivity, inventory reduction, higher OEE indicators, logistics optimization, and annual savings of hundreds of thousands of euros achieved through a systematic approach to process management.
For the furniture industry, these cases are especially relevant, as woodworking and furniture manufacturing heavily depend on effective process organization, inventory management, order fulfillment speed, and stable team performance.
A separate section of the webinar focused on change culture and the role of management in business transformation. The Kaizen Institute presentation emphasized that companies often focus exclusively on Lean tools while underestimating the importance of building a culture of continuous improvement.
Today, this approach is becoming critically important for Ukrainian furniture manufacturers operating in difficult economic conditions while striving to remain competitive in international markets.
For members of the Lviv Furniture Cluster, the webinar became an opportunity not only to learn about modern management practices, but also to rethink their own production processes through the lens of systemization, standardization, and team engagement.
Today, the furniture industry is increasingly shifting from the model of “producing more” to the model of “working more efficiently.” This is why topics such as Kaizen, process automation, production culture, and Lean management are becoming part of companies’ strategic development.
The Lviv Furniture Cluster continues to support initiatives that help manufacturers in the region gain access to international expertise, modern management methodologies, and practical tools for improving production efficiency.
In today’s environment, competitive advantage is defined not only by the product or furniture design itself, but also by a company’s ability to adapt quickly, optimize processes, and systematically develop production capabilities. These are exactly the approaches that are shaping the resilience of furniture businesses and the future of the Ukrainian furniture industry.
Kaizen Institute Ukraine, together with the Lviv Furniture Cluster, is launching the “Kaizen Practitioner” certification program, which combines the international KAIZEN™ methodology with practical training directly within a real manufacturing environment. The training will take place at the WOWIN furniture manufacturing facility in Stryi from June to August 2026 and will last 18 days in a three-module format.
Participants will work with topics including lean manufacturing, process mapping, problem-solving, TPM, 5S, and production standardization. The program is designed for production managers, operations managers, technologists, and company owners. The number of participants is limited to 10–14 people.
