Recently, Lviv hosted a training of trainers on digital transformation as part of the DIGI4TAF project, implemented by UNIDO Ukraine. More than 20 experts participated online and in person, including the team of the Lviv Furniture Cluster.
The training was led by Maximilian Födinger, Senior International Expert on MSME Development and Competitiveness within DIGI4TAF. The goal was not only to share knowledge, but also to prepare experts who can support Ukrainian manufacturing companies in assessing their digital readiness, identifying priority areas for change, and moving towards practical implementation.
One of the key principles of DIGI4TAF is that digitalisation should not start with choosing a technology. First, a company needs to understand where it is losing time and resources, which processes need improvement, and where digital tools can actually deliver results.
During the training, participants worked with digital maturity assessment methodologies for MSMEs, analysed business processes, identified opportunities for digitalisation and the use of artificial intelligence, and learned how to develop digital transformation roadmaps.

Particular attention was paid to an approach in which digital solutions are not introduced simply for the sake of technology. First, processes are optimised and unnecessary operations and losses are eliminated. Only then is it determined where automation or a digital tool can add value.
For the Lviv Furniture Cluster, participation in the training provides an opportunity to bring these methodologies directly into its work with Ukrainian manufacturers.
This means practical support for companies in areas that directly affect their competitiveness: production planning, procurement, inventory management, quality, data use, automation and AI adoption.
The next step is to bring these tools to the Cluster’s member companies and help them identify concrete steps towards digital transformation.
For the furniture sector, this creates an opportunity to move from general discussions about digitalisation to systematic work with processes, costs, productivity and operational resilience.
DIGI4TAF is a component of the project “Supporting the Recovery and Development of Industrial Sectors in Ukraine through Digital Transformation and the Development of an Innovation Ecosystem”, implemented by UNIDO within the Green Industrial Recovery Programme for Ukraine 2024–2028.
The project is financially supported by the Governments of Austria and Bulgaria. Its partners include the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.
The DIGI4TAF component is implemented by Quality Centre – Центр Якості, led by Olga Trofymova.
The next step is to work directly with companies and apply the acquired tools to support the development and digital transformation of Ukrainian furniture manufacturing.
