From Veterans' Stories to Modern Manufacturing
How can journalists tell veterans' stories through real experiences rather than stereotypes? As part of the MediaHub project by the German non-governmental organization IDEM e.V., journalists participating in the program dedicated to ethical reporting on veterans, inclusion, and reintegration visited FIX Union—a member of the Lviv Furniture Cluster and a manufacturer of contemporary outdoor furniture and urban infrastructure solutions that combines industrial development, innovation, and social responsibility.
The visit offered participants a firsthand look at how a veteran-owned business operates today, the challenges it faces, the opportunities it creates for veterans, and its contribution to the development of Ukrainian cities and the country's recovery.
A Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Production Facility
During the visit, the FIX Union team guided journalists through the production facility, demonstrating how outdoor furniture, urban infrastructure, and public space solutions are designed and manufactured.
Participants saw where and how modern benches, waste bins, bicycle parking systems, and other products are created before being installed in cities and communities across Ukraine. The team also shared its approach to designing comfortable, functional, and inclusive public spaces that meet the needs of today's cities and their residents.
New Opportunities Through the Support of the Ukrainian Veterans Foundation
A key part of the visit was the presentation of the company's new hybrid laser cutting machine, acquired with the support of the Ukrainian Veterans Foundation and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.
The FIX Union team demonstrated the capabilities of the new equipment and explained how modernizing production will improve product quality, increase manufacturing efficiency, and expand opportunities for developing new outdoor furniture solutions. According to the company, the investment enables more sophisticated designs, a broader product range, and stronger competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
An Open Conversation About Veteran Entrepreneurship
The meeting concluded with an open discussion, where journalists had the opportunity to ask questions about the company's development, the realities of veteran entrepreneurship, production modernization, and future plans.
The FIX Union team shared its experience of building and growing a business, spoke about everyday manufacturing processes, participation in international projects, and the importance of support programs that help veterans not only establish businesses but also scale them successfully.
